About

Howdy!

Welcome to my engineering and art portfolio!

I am a mechanical engineering graduate student at Texas A&M University presently developing novel processes and product designs that will ease additive manufacturing of metal parts. My latest work is on exploring the reliability of electron beam welding for joining 3D printed aerospace grade metal - Inconel 718 - parts.

I was born and raised in chaotic multicultural by-lanes of Mumbai, India. This laid a strong foundation for me as a professional, as I learned to explore new avenues in the search for the calm in the chaos. The semblance of things in nature, and the way they inspire modern technology intrigue me. My passion to understand how the world works led me to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work on several interesting projects and develop innovative products as a design engineer at Larsen & Toubro Defence in India. I also got to explore the start-up culture as an intern at Clean Energy Incubator at TEES, Texas where I helped two start-ups improve their products.

I strive to make a difference in the world and try to engage in all things creative. Along with engineering, I am also an art and photography enthusiast (Do visit my art gallery). I am trying to enhance my skills in digital art and also learning to play Ukulele. I would say, engineering is the food for my mind and art is the food for my soul. Through my future endeavors, I hope to to make world a better place.

"Akash is a self-motivated, forward-thinking and detail-oriented mechanical engineer."

FEA of SATURN V ENGINE FLANGE

Flange connecting the middle and bottom sections of the NASA Saturn V rocket engine was analyzed using ANSYS Mechanical. The flange was analyzed for pressure, thermal, bolt pretension and regeneration channel loads. Deformation of the flange, tangential stress, and resulting gap in the flange was analyzed.

ELECTRON BEAM WELDING  OF 3D PRINTED INCONEL 718

Graduate Research to test reliability of electron beam welding to join 3D printed Inconel 718 - a Nickel based super alloy used in Nuclear and Aerospace industry.

Ergo Workstation.png

DESIGN OF AN ERGONOMIC WORKSTATION

Work related muskulo-skeletal disorders (WMSDs) afftected 2.9 million office go-ers in the US and $13.7 billion in medical expense in 2018. We designed an affordable workstation that will provide ergonomic comfort to the user and reduce chances of WMSDs.

DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF FDM 3D PRINTER

An FDM based 3D printer was designed from scratch and fabricated under $450. Repetier host was implemented to control printer. This project received appreciation of $750in the form of sponsorship of from the department of Mechanical Engineering at Sardar Patel College of Engineering.

SMART VALVE FUNCTIONALITY TESTS

Flow Dynamics LLC's patented Smart Valve claims to reduce air bubbles and maintain constant flow rates in the residential and industrial water lines. Functionality tests were designed, setup was fabricated, and tests were conducted to check the claims.

COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION OF LANDING GEAR LUGS

MATLAB based computational model was developed to design and optimize side brace lugs of air craft landing gears. The design was optimized for weight, strength, thermal and fatigue life using gradient based and genetic algorithms.

Roll off trailer.png

DESIGN OF ROLL OFF TRAILER

A hydraulically lifted and electrically pulled roll off trailer with a capacity of 15000 lbs. was designed and analyzed using FEA on Solidworks.
